That's why I want to introduce you to the JSA-720L and JSA-720L Plus models of air blast freezers.

What is Air Blast Freezer and How Does It Work?

An air blast freezer is a type of freezer that uses a powerful fan to blow cold air around the food products, lowering their temperature rapidly. This method of freezing is also known as forced-air freezing or blast freezing. The cold air circulates in a closed loop, creating a uniform and consistent temperature throughout the freezer. The food products are placed on trays or racks, which allow the air to flow freely around them.

How to Choose Between Air Blast Freezer and Liquid Nitrogen Freezer?

If you are looking for a new freezer for your food production facility, you may wonder which type of freezer is more suitable for your needs. Industrial Air blast freezers and liquid nitrogen freezers are two common options, but they have different advantages and disadvantages. Here are some factors to consider when choosing between them:

  • Freezing time: Liquid nitrogen freezers can freeze products much faster than industrial air blast freezers, because liquid nitrogen has a very low boiling point of -196°C and generally the lowest working temperature can be -120°. Industrial Air blast freezers use cold air circulation to freeze products, but the airflow is not very controlled and the temperature is usually higher than -30°C to -40°C (the working temperature can reach -80°C when using the stacking units.). A faster freezing time means better product quality, less dehydration and higher yield.
  • Space: Liquid nitrogen freezers are generally more compact than air blast freezers, because they do not require refrigeration machinery or large freezing rooms. Of the same capacity, air blast freezers need more space to accommodate the product racks or trays and the cold storage rooms. A smaller freezer means less energy consumption and lower operating costs.
  • Flexibility: Liquid nitrogen freezers can be set up with different recipes to freeze various products with different throughputs and temperatures. Air blast freezers are less flexible and may not be suitable for some products that require rapid freezing or special handling. A more flexible freezer means more product variety and customer satisfaction.
  • Cost: Generally, of the same productivity, liquid nitrogen freezers have a lower initial investment cost than air blast freezers, because they do not need refrigeration equipment or large infrastructure. However, they have a higher operating cost, because liquid nitrogen is more expensive than electricity and needs to be stored and transported in tanks. Air blast freezers have a higher initial investment cost, but a lower operating cost, because electricity is cheaper than liquid nitrogen and does not need storage or transportation. A lower cost freezer means more profit margin and return on investment.

Liquid nitrogen freezers and air blast freezers have different pros and cons, and the best choice depends on your product characteristics, production capacity, budget and preferences. You should weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each option carefully before making a decision.

3. How does an air blast freezer work?

An air blast freezer is a type of freezer that uses cold air to rapidly freeze food products. It works by blowing cold air over the food surface, which lowers the temperature of the food quickly and prevents the formation of large ice crystals. This helps to preserve the quality, freshness, and safety of the food.

4. What is the temperature of air blast freezer?

The working temperature range of the air blast freezer is -30°C to -40°C. This means it can freeze your food products very quickly and effectively. It also has an automatic refrigeration constant temperature monitoring system to ensure stable and consistent freezing performance.

5. What is the difference between cryogenic freezer and air blast freezer?

Cryogenic freezers and air blast freezers represent two distinct freezing solutions extensively employed in the food processing domain. Here's a breakdown of their differences:

  • Freezing Time: The freezing time is a pivotal aspect of the freezing process, signifying the duration needed to lower the product's thermal core temperature to a specific sub-zero level. Cryogenic freezers employ liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide to achieve rapid freezing, leading to notably shorter freezing times compared to air blast freezers.
  • Freezing Method: Air blast freezers utilize either still or forced air as the medium, with the product remaining stationary within freezing storage rooms. Still air freezing, or cold storage, is a straightforward approach with the lowest initial investment, ideally suited for larger or unprocessed products, though it entails longer freezing times. Forced air freezers, an advanced iteration of cold storage, employ convection for circulating cold air in the freezing chamber. Nonetheless, this technique still results in extended freezing times due to insufficiently regulated airflow, causing reduced surface heat transfer.
  • Product Quality: Cryogenic freezers excel in preserving product quality by minimizing dehydration and upholding the product's texture, color, and flavor.
  • Cost: Generally, cryogenic freezers are pricier than air blast freezers because of their reliance on liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide.

If you require faster freezing rates or have stringent quality standards for frozen products, click here to explore our liquid nitrogen freezing solution (operating at temperatures as low as -120°C).

6. What are the benefits or advantages of air blast freezers comparing with liquid nitrogen freezers?

  • Cost: Air blast freezers are generally less expensive than liquid nitrogen freezers due to their use of air as a medium.
  • Versatility: Air blast freezers can handle a variety of irregularly shaped products and sizes, making them a better choice for freezing large or unprocessed products.
  • Uniformity: Air is a low viscosity fluid that can easily follow around irregular surface geometries, providing a more uniform freezing rate over the whole product.
  • Maintenance: Air blast freezers require less maintenance than liquid nitrogen freezers, which need to be refilled with liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide regularly.

7. What is the warranty period for the Air Blast Freezer?

We provide a 12-month warranty, starting from the date of user receipt. During the warranty period, if the equipment is damaged due to quality issues, we cover the cost of replacement parts.

8. How does the equipment defrost?

SPEEDCRYO® Air Blast Freezers feature an automatic defrosting program that ensures efficiency and convenience without requiring manual intervention. Here's how it works:

  • The equipment initiates an automatic defrosting cycle every four hours, during which the compressor ceases operation.
  • Equipped with temperature sensors, the evaporator monitors the temperature. If the sensor detects a temperature lower than the "evaporator frost temperature," it triggers the defrosting cycle, even if the four-hour interval has not been reached, ensuring the equipment's operational efficiency.
  • During the defrosting cycle, the temperature sensor continuously monitors the evaporator's temperature. When the temperature rises above the "evaporator frost temperature," the defrosting cycle automatically stops, and the compressor resumes operation.

This entire process is fully automated, requiring no manual intervention, ensuring your products remain optimally frozen.
